Entry Fees
As with all of our programs and resources, Equality in Forensics tournaments are 100% free to enter and compete in. Unfortunately, that does not mean they are free to run. If you or your program has the financial means to pay the $20 entry fee, we ask that you do not fill out the fee waiver. Equality in Forensics is a nonprofit organization that operates off the generosity of donors and the hard work of our volunteers. Any money we collect goes towards bare necessities, like paying the Tabroom hosting fee associated with these tournaments.
If you are unable to donate $20, we offer a fee waiver to all participants, which is available at the tournament tabroom page.
We charge a $10 nuisance fee for no-shows and day-of drops. This is not to raise money. This is to deter no-shows and day-of drops. In the past it has been disastrous for tournament scheduling when many competitors sign up for a free tournament and then not show up when the day of the tournament arrives just because there is no consequence.
Independent Entry
To prioritize accessibility, independent entry is permitted and encouraged at all Equality in Forensics tournaments and scrimmages. Students are able to register through an independent institution that they've created, or through Equality Independent, the independent institution of Equality in Forensics.
To enter as an independent through Equality in Forensics, email Event Director Meilyn Aubuchon for all major tournaments, or Deputy Director of Scrimmages Sahas Vemula for weekly scrimmages.
Independent entrants are still encouraged to donate a $20 entry fee if they are financially able to do so.
Judging
As a student-run, online tournament, we deeply appreciate our judges. By making this tournament possible, you enable our mission of making speech & debate more accessible across the country. If you are entering in the tournament, please bring a judge. We do not require it, but without judges, our tournament cannot function.
Students and FYOs may judge, but we will prioritize coaches, former debaters, and other qualified adults. If we do not have enough judges by time of competition, competitors may be asked to judge. We can certify judging as service hours. Time spent judging at the tournament is also qualified to be entered as NSDA service points.
Judge registration and pairings remain subject to change throughout the competition.
Legislation & Topics
In order to provide the most helpful resource for all competitors, congressional legislation and resolutions are chosen from the nation's most prestigious debate tournaments.
Winter Championship = Sunvite (Cong.) // NovDec (LD) // NovDec (LD)
Spring Break Special = Tournament of Champions (Cong.) // April (LD) // April (PF)
Season Championship = NSDA Nationals (Cong.) // JanFeb (LD) // April (PF)
Topic areas in Extemp and motions for World Schools Debate are written by Equality in Forensics tournament staffers.
Round Robin
Equality in Forensics is proud to offer an end-of-season Round Robin tournament in Congress and Extemp. This Round Robin will be recorded, flowed, and analyzed as an educational reference for aspiring debaters across the nation.
Most round robins are opaque, and have few viewers. We want to spotlight the best congressional debaters of the season, so that everyone can see what works. We will also publish judge ballots for all speakers, so you can see what even the best stand to improve in their performance.
The winners of each major Equality in Forensics Tournament (Winter Championship, Spring Break Special, and Season Championship) earn invitations to compete in the Round Robin. More information about tournament invitations and applications can be found here.
The Equality in Forensics Round Robin is proud to be home to both excellence and equity.
