Kathan is a senior at CR North High School in Pennsylvania, where he serves as Captain of the Congressional Debate team and is ranked #3 in the state across all speech and debate events. He has previously served as Equality in Forensics' Event Director.

Joining Equality in Forensics during his sophomore year, Kathan worked as a contributor for the Congressional Debate Resource Center before founding and leading the nonprofit's weekly Congress Scrimmages in spring 2024, where he managed nine tournaments with 215 total entries and provided $3,400 in scholarships to speech and debate camps. He has since served as Tournament Director at the 2024 Winter Championship and led the creation of both live and recorded lectures for publication on YouTube. Kathan also founded the Pennsylvania Chapter, leading it to ratification.

As Operations Director, Kathan is in charge of reviewing and interviewing applicants to the national staff team and conducting outreach for the nonprofit's various initiatives and programs. He also manages the organization's human resources across more than 800 volunteers and tracks data on the organization's programs and resources.
